FLEX has a workflow to help you manage Copyright compliance within your organisation. This page is a brief overview of this workflow.
Licence compliance verification and other licence options
In FLEX, content you use is automatically covered by the Statutory Education Licence. The Statutory Education Licence allows you to use a reasonable amount of a book or a journal (10% or one chapter as a guideline) for the same cohort of students in a given academic year.
However, you may want to use material that is covered by a different licence. For example you've got the possibility to select 'Accessible format version for a student with disability' (see dedicated article for that option).
To do this, in Step 3 of the workflow, click on the 'Other licence options' dropdown, and select the licence that applies to your content.
Usage compliance
This section automatically calculates how much of a book or journal you have used for a specific unit in a given academic year. It displays the total number of pages currently being used for that unit and lists all the requests using that title.
In the example below, you can see a warning has appeared for multiple extracts of the same book have been used within the same unit. This is a useful tool to help you manage the material that is being delivered for a unit. This warning can be overridden by ticking the checkboxes 'Confirm 1 chapter' and or 'Confirm within extent limits'.
If you don't see a total usage percentage appearing in that section, it means you need to indicate the total number of pages of the book in order to make the compliance calculation work.
